MIDAS calculator
The Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS) counts the days in the last 3 months on which headache stopped or halved your activity at work, at home and in your free time. The total gives a grade from I to IV.
Answer the five questions to see your score. Empty answers count as 0.
Grades
| Grade | Score | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| I | 0–5 | Little or no disability |
| II | 6–10 | Mild disability |
| III | 11–20 | Moderate disability |
| IV | 21 or more | Severe disability |
The score is the sum of questions 1 to 5 and ranges from 0 to 270. Questions A and B describe how often and how badly headaches hurt; they are reported next to the score but not added to it.
Before you answer
- Count days, not hours. A day on which a headache cost you half of your work counts as one day in question 2.
- Do not count the same day twice within a pair: a day you missed work goes into question 1, not question 2.
- If you kept a headache diary, use it. Counting from memory over three months tends to be less accurate.
